Steroids, the
synthetic versions of the male hormone
testosterone, are
commonly taken in forms of oral pills, injectable, and transdermal
patches.
Orals steroids are taken through the mouth. To many steroid users this
is the most convenient route of administration.
Injectable
steroids are taken intramuscularly. When you take injectable
steroids, make sure that you are injecting directly into the muscle and
not into the veins. When taking injectable steroids, there are several
things you need to keep in mind for a safe self-administration. First,
when you are taking injectable steroids, don’t share needles and use a
sterile needle every time. This is to prevent you from contracting
contagious diseases and
infection.
Second, you must know the proper injection sites to avoid painful or
uncomfortable administration. Choose areas which have large number of
muscle fibers like the buttocks, lateral side of thigh, and the deltoid
region of the arm. These sites will also allow fast and effective
absorption of the steroid.
Steroids in transdermal patches are taken to deliver continuous dose of
steroids through the skin and into the bloodstream. The two most common
ways to
take steroids
– orally and intramuscularly – pose some serious disadvantages to
steroid users like liver damage
(such as in the case of oral steroids) and infection (in the case of
injectable steroids).
