Steroids mimic
the effects of naturally occurring androgenic hormones in the body,
primarily
testosterone.
As such, steroids exert basically the similar mode of action, promoting
anabolic and androgenic effects.
Naturally occurring hormones are responsible for these anabolic effects
–
red
blood cell production, muscle and bone growth, and neural
conduction enhancement. The androgenic effects are sexual
characteristics growth – voice changes, oily skin, hair growth, and
enlargement of the genitals (penis and testes). Both of these effects
of steroids are particularly apparent during the puberty and
adolescence stages.
Synthetic steroids
are so designed to enhance the
anabolic
effects and to decrease the occurrence of androgenic
effects. However, so far, steroid manufacturers has yet to come up with
a compound that does not exert androgenic symptoms since it has been
discovered that androgenic effects are actually anabolic effects in
sex-linked tissues.
Should you opt to use these drugs, you can practice unique dosing
protocol to maximize positive effects and maximize negative effects of
steroids. There is the so-called cycling which involves alternating
periods of use with non-use of steroids. A typical steroid cycle lasts
6 to 8 weeks and then followed by a
time
off of steroids (usually 2 to weeks). After the break, you
may resume steroid intake.
