Although a mild
androgen and not a known aromatizing steroid, you might think that
Winstrol
should be relatively safe for your body. This might be true when
compared to other
steroids
but Winstrol has its own set of problems.
Winstrol side effects
range from mild headaches due to its androgenicity to severe, life
threatening chronic liver problems. There are, of course, different
ways of how you can avoid
Winstrol
side effects and you should be aware of these even before you
use the
steroid.
The most common
Winstrol
side effects that bodybuilders get are from the androgenicity of the
steroid. Although Winstrol is not an effective binder of the androgen
receptor, it is still an effective androgen. One of the side effects
especially common in females and younger steroid users is acne
formation. Now, acne from Winstrol use isn't just your simple single
lesion on the face. Acne formation from steroid use often occurs on the
back and on the chest as several big, red and sometimes painful papules
that can contain some pus when infected. Although acne does not pose
that much of a threat, this Winstrol side effect is very unpleasant and
borderline disturbing especially to teenage steroid users.
Unfortunately, you can't prevent acne from developing especially if
its due to hormone excess. You can, however, treat it very effectively
with anti-keratolytics and isotretinoin. A very popular isotretinoin is
Accutane and many users have attested to its effectivity in treating
steroid-related acne.
Due to
Winstrol
being an androgen, it does pose virilizing effects on women, especially
those who use this steroid for a long time and at high doses.
Virilizing effects can manifest as deepening of the voice, increase in
body hair and menstrual irregularities. It can prevent women from
effectively bearing children and can cause some endocrine problems.
Unfortunately, this
Winstrol
side effect irreversible even after stopping the use of
Winstrol. They are not even preventable by using estrogen or
progesterone which are female hormones. Fortunately, experience shows
that a very minimal dose can prevent this Winstrol side effect. Women
can and have effectively taken 5 to 10 mg of Winstrol daily without
developing male qualities and still managing to experience the
bodybuilding effects of the steroid.
Winstrol alone does not really produce any estrogen-related side
effects since it is not an aromatizing steroid. Can you imagine having
to use this steroid with, say,
testosterone
or
Dianabol
though? Most heavy bulking orals do easily aromatize and while
stacking Winstrol
with these drugs in order to maximize gains, you also have to be wary
of the early signs of estrogen side effects. Most males who start
experiencing these effects often notice changes on their nipples such
as reddening, itchiness and tenderness. These could be the starting
signs of gynecomastia. It is highly recommended that males take about
0.25 mg of
Arimidex,
an oral aromatase inhibitor, everyday during the cycle or 20 mg of
Nolvadex,
a selective estrogen receptor modulator, everyday.
Amidst popular belief that Winstrol does not affect the hypothalamic
pituitary testicular axis, any steroid will actually suppress your
testosterone production to some degree. Therefore it is possible to
have a Winstrol side effect of problems with your libido and sperm
formation although this is not that common. This can always be
prevented by taking the proper post cycle therapy regimen to stimulate
your endogenous testosterone levels such as using
HCG.
The most feared among Winstrol side effects is the possibility
of liver damage, whether the steroid is used alone or in
combination with other steroids. Both
Winstrol oral and injectable
forms are 17-alpha alkylated compounds and both can increase liver
enzymes such as alkaline phosphatase. While this can easily be
prevented by limiting the use of Winstrol to 8 weeks and using
recommended doses, other methods of helping the liver can also be used.
In order to minimize the Winstrol side effects of jaundice or liver
necrosis, you can always opt to take some form of liver support such as
liver detoxification supplements and milk thistle. You may also want to
increase pro-liver antioxidants such as vitamins E and C, and minerals
including selenium and zinc.
Winstrol side effects, as well as the side effects caused by other
steroids, may be potentially dangerous. Being aware of what these are,
however, can minimize adverse reactions from occurring. While treatment
is available for some of these Winstrol side effects, prevention is
still the key in safely using this steroid. It is greatly advised that
Winstrol
be used in its recommended dose and in the recommended duration.
