Withdrawal of certain immunosuppressive drugs after transplantation of the kidney could prolong survival and help in saving a considerable amount of money when compared with keeping patients on these medications for life.

This finding was disclosed in a study that appeared in an issue of the Journal of the American Society Nephrology (JASN).
