Ban on 'legal highs'Some products were recently classified as controlled substances under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. The ban covers GBL, BZP, and manmade chemicals sprayed on herbal smoking products such as Spice.

This crackdown followed the high-profile case of medical student Hester Stewart, 21, who died in Brighton in April after consuming GBL.

Two growth promoters and 15 anabolic steroids were also expected to be controlled as Class C drugs.
