Researchers about to find how exercises impact the heartResearchers from the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in collaboration with the Harvard University Health Services recently found that significant changes in cardiac structure and function can be observed with 90 days of vigorous athletic training. It was also noted that the change type tends to vary with the type of exercise performed.

The study appeared in an issue of Journal of Applied Physiology.

Aaron Baggish, MD, a fellow in the MGH Cardiology Division and lead author of the study, said that this first-of-a-kind study was aimed at determining how the training process actually causes change to occur.
