So canada has a steroid problem too? now it’s not only the USA suffering from “steroid problems” , people are buying steroids EVERYWHERE! I don’t get why the federal government not just legalize steroids and tax them.  Easier for everyone, then they can concentrate resources on getting meth and crack/coke/heroin off the streets not steroids!  Get the real drugs.  Don’t go for steroids you goofballs!!!
Canada has a steroid problem,as they call it, because of ignorance nothing more.  Steroids are no more a drug then whey protein!

There’s been a steroid explosion in B.C. Last year, authorities seized more than six times the number of illegal steroids that were smuggled into the province in 2005.

Despite the well-publicized menace of these drugs and the significant resources being dedicated to ensure a drug-free 2010 Olympics, there appears to be no slowdown in the number of people using them.

“If there’s that much interest in bringing drugs across the border, there’s a market. I don’t think it’s very difficult, when I talk to kids, to find steroids anywhere in the city, or anywhere (in B.C.),” said Lynda Cannell, chief executive officer for SportMedBC.
****In 2006, a little more than 795,000 doses and more than 50,700 grams of steroids were seized by Canada Border Services Agency — an increase of more than 600 per cent from 2005 when 118,225 doses and 20,321 grams of steroids were seized.

Although the Canada Border Services Agency is reluctant to explain what’s behind the massive spike, spokeswoman Faith St. John acknowledged much of the increase could be attributed to large shipments intercepted in the mail.

She wouldn’t comment if they were steroids ordered over the Internet.

But Cannell added: “If you go on and Google steroids, you’ll find site after site.”

On B.C.-based message forums, anonymous suppliers assure buyers that Canadian customs rarely intercept shipments.

One dealer posted saying orders that didn’t arrive could be sent again. “Since it happens so rarely, we can afford to send another shipment on our expense.”

Last year, Health Canada issued a warning not to consume or purchase five anabolic steroid products: Anabolic Xtreme Superdrol, Methyl-1-P, Ergomax LMG, Prostanozoland and FiniGenX Magnum Liquid.

In Canada, steroids are a controlled substance that can legally be used to treat specific medical conditions. But anabolic steroids — the type most commonly found on the black market — have few legitimate uses. They’re used mainly for beefing up physical size and strength.

In more recent years, steroids have been blamed for the phenomenon of “reverse anorexia,” in which users take the drug just to look better.

Health Canada estimates 83,000 Canadians, mostly young men between the ages of 11 and 18, are using steroids.

Last month, the World Anti-Doping Agency called on sport organizations to share information with police about drug dealers and manufacturers in order to stop the problem at its source.

Sgt. Scott Rintoul with the RCMP Drugs and Organized Crime Awareness Service says he’d welcome the move, even though steroids are often seen as less of a public threat compared to heroin or cocaine and fewer policing resources are put towards cracking down on it.
