Amidst the investigation of the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics (MBN) into an alleged case of trafficking illegal steroids, one Hernando police officer and a firefighter resigned in Desoto County.
The two were among those law enforcement officers under investigation in Northwest Mississippi about the steroids trafficking case.
According to Hernando Mayor Chip Johnson, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics informed him beforehand of their plans to talk with Fire Chief Hubert Jones and with Hernando Police Chief Mike Riley. Some employees under these departments were already interviewed and so far, no arrest or charges have been made.
According to Fire Chief Jones, the firefighter resigned for “personal reasons”. However, he confirmed that MBN investigators were able to talk with his firefighter before he resigned. Jones knew very little of the investigation.
Meanwhile, Police Chief Riley also acknowledged the fact that MBN investigators were able to talk with his police officer. However, to what degree, he also does not know.
The police officer who resigned also served as a former dispatcher for almost two years.
Southaven Police Chief Tom Long said he was not contacted by MBN officers, so he assumes that nobody from his department is involved.
