Texans linebacker blames overtrained athlete syndrome for hCG
Brian Cushing, the Houston Texan linebacker, has ditched the tumor excuse and recently said that his positive test for the banned substance hCG was because he suffers from “overtrained athlete syndrome.”
Cushing faced suspension for four games after he tested positive for a female infertility drug, hCG, which is used by athletes to enhance declining production of testosterone after cycling off steroids.
From NYdailynews.com:
“I think that’s the final diagnosis we came up with,” he said, “and a lot of doctors have supported why this has happened.
“Every individual is genetically different,” Cushing added. “I had a unique situation where something like this occurred and we have the science to back it up. It’s taken months. It’s really beyond what we ever thought and it’s beyond the regular medical doctor.
“We’ve gone in depth, and there has been a lot of money spent on the research,” he said. “There have been a lot of interesting results that I think can help us.”
Texans owner Bob McNair is scheduled to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to push for a reduced penalty for Cushing. The league denied Cushing’s appeal of the suspension in February.
Cushing was named the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year last season. He retained the award after a revote following his suspension.
It was suggested by Cushing at a press conference that he is suffering from a life-endangering tumor after testing positive for hCG.
