Longtime clubhouse manager of the Mets, Charlie Samuels, has been suspended after the team was notified of his association with a law-enforcement investigation into illegal gambling. This finding was disclosed by a lawyer briefed on the matter and a law-enforcement official.

The lawyer said that gambling is believed to be tied to football.

The Mets said in a statement that Samuels had been suspended indefinitely without pay.
