Boosting Cortisol Levels Benefits CFS And Fibromyalgia PatientsA California doctor had claimed that chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and fibromyalgia can be treated by boosting stress hormone cortisol with low doses of hydrocortisone. According to Dr. Kent Holtorf, the treatment offers great health benefits with less risk, compared to other treatments for the two conditions.

Doctor Holtorf believes that patients with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia have low levels of steroid hormone cortisol. These conditions are due to dysfunction in a brain system that regulates response to stress, known as the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis.

Based on the experiment conducted by Dr. Holtorf, the treatment showed that significant percentage of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia patients have improved. However, some patients also experienced side effects especially those administered with higher steroid doses.
