Three more track and field competitors returned positive for anabolic steroids in conducted tests during the National Open Championships held in Kolkata recently.

The 93 urine sample tests conducted by NADA disclosed three returned positive for multiple substances, including banned steroids and stimulant methylhexaneamine.

Methylhexaneamine, the stimulant, returned to haunt Indian sport.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has cut the lifetime ban on Iranian weightlifter Saeid Ali-Hosseini for a second doping offense to 12 years.

Ali-Hosseini was barred by the CAS until October 2021, when he will be 33, after he tested positive for the anabolic steroid methandienone.

The incident has once again brought forward the association between anabolic steroids and professional sportsmen.

Sacked Ukaranian coach Yuri Ogorodnik on Saturday claimed innocence in the present doping scandal which hit Indian athletics.

Ogorodnik said he never gave any anabolic steroid to his wards.

“I am a professional coach and I don’t give dope,” he said. “How can I give steroids to girls who are on WADA list? Girls believe in me and I believe them,” he told reporters in Patiala on Saturday.

A woman visiting the Lincoln prison has been caught while sneaking Class C drugs into the jail.

Katarzyna Paszkiewicz, the woman, attempted to smuggle drugs into Lincoln Prison hidden inside her bra.

The woman attracted a sniffer dog’s attention when she arrived at the prison to visit her boyfriend.

Two more female athletes from India have tested positive to an anabolic steroid, taking the count of doping accused to eight.

The two athletes are Ashwini Akkunji and Priyanka Panwar. Akkunji was a Gold medalist at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and 2010 Asian Games.

Commonwealth and Asian Games gold medalists Sini Jose and Mandeep Kaur last week flunked the tests conducted by National Anti-Doping Agency.

The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) of India has issued a warning to athletes and coaches that the Agency will now be forced to raid their rooms in national camp.

“This is the limit and it is disturbing that two of our best athletes ( Mandeep Kaur and Juana Murmu) have tested positive for banned drugs. If this trend continues we will be forced to conduct raids at the national camps,” NADA chief Rahul Bhatnagar told TOI.

The National Anti-Doping Agency is determined to ensure that all the athletes training for the London Olympics are clean, said NADA chief Rahul Bhatnagar.

The number of seizures of illegal anabolic steroids at Ireland’s ports and airports has been growing at an unprecedented pace.

The Customs has found €200,000 of drugs under the steroid label since beginning of the year 2004.

Athletes are banned from taking anabolic steroids that are illegal in sport because they speed up the process of both muscle building and recovery.

Facourou Sissoko from Mali and Ukrainian Liudmyla Osmanova have been excluded from the Paralympic Games following doping violations.

The duo tested positive in pre-Games out-of-competition tests for boldenone metabolite and 19-Norandrosterone (anabolic agents), respectively.

Both Sissoko and Osmanova have been disqualified from the Beijing Games and banned for two years.

Nigerian athlete Folashade Abugan has been stripped of her two Commonwealth Games silver medals after failing a drugs test, according to an announcement.

Abugan now faces a ban of up to two years and becomes the third Nigerian to fail a drugs test at the Delhi event after the 110m hurdler Samuel Okon and Damola Osayemi, who claimed gold in the women’s 100m, both of whom tested positive for the banned stimulant methylhexaneamine.

Abugan forfeits her silver in the 400m and, as a member of her country’s second-placed finish in the 4x400m relay, that result is also nullified.
