Nate Marquardt Wins Strikeforce Gold – Cliff Notes

@Nate Marquardt, the former UFC contender, has won the vacant Strikeforce welterweight championship with a knockout of Tyron Woodley.

Nate Marquardt – Post Tyron Woodley Interview – Strikeforce MMA

A few years ago, the MMA fighter admitted in an interview that he was suffering from low testosterone levels and his doctor recommended testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). Before his fight against Dan Miller in New Jersey, he requested a therapeutic-use exemption (TUE) but the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board indicated that request of his doctor was incomplete and the TRT treatment was not in accordance with the standards of USADA. The Board said they would authorize the testosterone treatment as long as Marquardt agrees to go off treatment for eight weeks and take three blood tests after the fight.

However, the personal doctor of the fighter suggested aggressive treatment and recommended injecting the testosterone straight rather than allowing Marquardt to take oral medications that promote the pituitary gland to spur testosterone production in the testicles. The testosterone injections pushed the fighter’s levels out of the range accepted by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission (PSAC) and UFC President fired Marquardt through Twitter.

White said Nate Marquardt would never fight in the UFC again after he failed to clear his medicals for his main event fight against Rick Story at a UFC event in Pittsburgh. Marquardt then went public and disclosed that his medicals failed because of elevated levels of testosterone due to a testosterone replacement therapy, or TRT. The UFC President added that the MMA fighter tested positive for anabolic steroids in 2006, was on suspension for New Jersey, then failed to clear his medicals at Pennsylvania, and could not get a fourth chance. White added that there is a difference between testosterone replacement therapy and getting to levels where it is performance enhancing.

Born on April 20, 1979, Marquardt is an American mixed martial artist running the High Altitude Martial Arts Academy in Aurora, Colorado. Marquardt (31-10-2) has compiled 10 wins since joining the UFC in 2005 and has fought for the middleweight title in 2007 against Anderson Silva, which he lost via first-round TKO. Marquardt came close twice in 2010 to compete for the title again but fell short after decision losses to Chael Sonnen and Yushin Okami. On July 3, 2010 he was expected to face Alessio Sakara but the flight was called off after Sakara pulled out due to the death of his father. On March 19, 2011 at UFC 128, he won a fight against Dan Miller via unanimous decision after Yoshihiro Akiyama pulled out of the bout. The MMA fighter signed with top U.K. fight promotion BAMMA, the British Association of Mixed Martial Arts after his suspension was lifted by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission.

Recently, Dana White made an announcement that the fighter has signed with Strikeforce and his debut was Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy against Tyron Woodley in a bout for the vacant Strikeforce Welterweight Championship where he knocked out Woodley to become the Strikeforce Welterweight champion. The former UFC contender Nate Marquardt controlled the stand-up for the first two rounds and held off takedown attempts of Woodley to emerge victorious.

Rafael ‘Feijao’ Cavalcante, the former Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion, recently tested positive for metabolites of stanozolol.

The Brazilian fighter failed a test following his May win over Mike Kyle. The California State Athletic Commission has announced Cavalcante to a year-long suspension besides asking him to pay a fine of $2,500.

“Our primary concern is for the health and safety of fighters,” CSAC executive officer George Dodd stated. “Anabolic agents and other banned substances put not only the users of those agents at risk, but their opponents as well. The commission simply will not tolerate their use.”

Cung Le destroys Frank Shamrock at EliteXC/StrikeForce

frank_shamrock-cung-leeToday was another good day for IS MMA predictions, as we predicted earlier this week, Cung Le beat Frank Shamrock by KO , by the looks of the fight, our “Frank Shamrock is washed out” comment was absolutely right. Frank made the best punching bag you can imagine for Le, standing up for 3 rounds and getting destroyed. Being an idiot with a bad game plan does seem to run in the family! Just as Ken Shamrock lost by standing up in fights where he was a worse striker instead of going to the ground, so does Frank Shamrock. The latest lost by Frank Shamrock is also going to facilitate the fight of: Brother vs. Brother: Ken Shamrock vs. Frank Shamrock, which is probably going to be a double joke in the industry.

Cung Le vs. Frank Shamrock play by play:

The fight start with Le throwing a lot of his kicks, keeping Frank Shamrock at a distance. After an unsuccessful takedown attempt by Frank, Le continued to pummel Shamrock with kicks while Frank tried to work a few jabs to get on the inside for a takedown.
Round 1: 9-9 (even)

The second round went much better for Le, as he starting throwing some hard leg and hand combinations. In the his one and only attempt for a takedown, Shamrock failed! For the rest of the round, Frank was literally pummeled by kicks.
Round 2: 10-8 (Le)

The last round of the fight was really the exciting moment. Cung Le came out of a huge amount of kicks and punches, even some amazing kick/punch combinations. Towards the end of the round, Le seemed tired from all the kicks and Shamrock jumped at the opportunity with a few punches and a knee. However, Cung Le survived and fought back. Landing a high kick that almost KOed Shamrock, throwing him back. Cung Le continued with non stop punches and kicks, finishing the round with a huge high kick to Frank’s face.

As the clock ran out, and the round ended. Frank Shamrock fell to the ground in pain and could not continue. It seemed his right arm was broken.

Winner: Cung Le – 3R 5:00 by KO

Steroids in Cung Le vs. Frank Shamrock:

Of course no IS blog entry would be done without steroid use accusations.  Looking at the fight, it doesn’t seem like Cung Le is on a steroid cycle right now, but it it likely and possible he was using some short half life anabolic steroids like Anavar or Winstrol during his training.  He doesn’t have the human growth hormone (HGH) gut or look, so that’s something we are ruling out.  On the other hand, Frank Shamrock looked very slow, just like his brother Ken Shamrock.  Ken Shamrock uses steroids on a regular basis, that’s the claim Frank makes as to his low confidence.  However, we saw a very weak and non-confident Frank Shamrock in the fight today.   Is it possible that Frank Shamrock was weak because he had to get off his steroid cycle in order not to test positive for anabolic steroids during the testing.  It does seem like he was still using human growth hormone (HGH) but he was probably off his testosterone propionate with anavar.

Bob “the steroids and hgh” sapp loses again , was a post made about a month and a half ago here, but we weren’t able to show you a video of how bad this fight was so you can experience the idiot Bob Sapp making a joke out of MMA. It s a surprise strikeforce MMA would even pay him any money much less his six figure salary he got from this shameful loss!

Bob Sapp vs. Jan Nortje Video:

Bob “the steroids and hgh” sapp loses again

bob sappBob Sapp, lost again, but this time in the USA. It seems it’s true that steroids, human growth hormone and washed up NFL players really don’t add up well. Jan Nortje TKOed Bob Sapp within 55 seconds in the 1st round of the strikeforce MMA event. The more pathetic part was that Jan Nortje has got to be the crappiest MMA fighter in the world, maybe top 500 haha. His record before Sapp was 1-9, 1 win and 9 losses in MMA, the guy was a walking joke. Nortje actually lost to Gary Goodridge via an armbar (that’s right via an armbar!), Gary Goodridge probably has the BJJ skills of a 5 year old.

We have some advice here for Bob Sapp; Sapp, do 1 of 2 things. 1) quit/retire and go into full time promotions in Japan or 2) use a ton more steroids and HGH and TRAIN HARD! don’t come out looking like a fool and lose in 55 seconds to a man most believe is a joker.  Do whatever you need to do to win, but don’t come out to fight and look like a tired, worn out joke in MMA.
