Rightly
as it is said that the one who realizes his true potential cannot be
very far away from knowing what he deserves and working hard towards
achieving it. One of the best examples in this regard is the former
American IFBB professional body builder, Lee Haney.
Ideally Lee needs no introduction because his record of
winning
eight Mr. Olympia titles without pausing for a single year speaks for
the man himself, his grit and labor that went behind him achieving it.
Born on November 11, 1959, Haney is a devoted Christian who is known to
teach people not only the essentials of how to grow physically but
spiritually strong also. His quote, ‘ Train to stimulate not
annihilate' has been received with great respect and admiration by the
body building fraternity. Haney runs his own program on ‘Trinity
Broadcasting Network' called as the ‘TotaLee fit with Lee Haney' where
he is most often graced by other sportsmen and sometimes his wife.
Lee's career shot off with him winning the Teen Mr. America
Tall in
1979. This was then followed by him standing first in three consecutive
contests namely Junior Nationals Heavy weight & Overall,
Nationals
Heavyweight & Overall and World Amateur Championships Heavy
weight
in 1982. Haney never went below third position in winning the Grand
Prix titles from myriad countries which mainly included England , Las
Vegas Sweden and Switzerland in 1983 followed Germany in the year 1987.
He also won the Night of Champions in 1983. However, it was his Mr.
Olympia win for eight years straight from 1984 till 1991 that made him
the favorite bodybuilder of the masses. His passion and determination
went on to impress the then President of United States of America so
much that he appointed Lee as the Chairman of the President's Council
on Physical Fitness and Sports.
Lee Haney is 5'10” in height. His Competition weight
is 244lbs and Off season weight stays around 260 lbs.
Lee has earned a degree in Child Psychology and was also the
member
of the football team during his college days. He was finally succeeded
by Lynn Swann after his last Olympia win.
Thus we see that Lee has been an active sportsperson all
through but
it is his passion that actually made him choose his career and finally
do justice to it.
