Dorian Yates
Dorian
Yates was born as Dorian Andrew Meintjez Yates on April 19 th , 1962
Sutton Coldfield, England . This professional body builder made his
debut in the 1985 World Games and then went on to win the Mr. Olympia
title six times year after year. Yates is known to have completely
revolutionized the style of training in the field of body building, a
change very few professionals have been able to bring about in this
sport.
Ideally Yates is considered to have greatly supported Mike
Mentzer's
typical style of training, popularly known as HIT or High Intensity
Training but with time he did bring about some changes in this style as
well. He proposed that instead of working out for longer periods of
time one can develop good musculature even by working for lesser amount
of time but with required intensity. In 1994, he collaborated with Mike
Mentzer and Ray Mentzer and gave birth to a corporation called , ‘Heavy
Duty Inc.”
His account of body building titles includes Night of
Champions
(1990&1991) in which he placed first and second respectively.
Yates
has won the Mr. Olympia title six times in the years 1991,
1992,1993,1994,1995, 1996 and 1997 after which he was succeeded by
Ronnie Coleman. His predecessor was Lee Haney who again was a record
holder of 8 Olympia titles during his term. However, the titles won by
Dorian do not end here. He has won a score of Grand Prix contests of
countries like England , Germany and Spain , more than twice each in
the years 1992, 1994 and1996.
His competitive stats are competitive weight – 270 lbs, Off
season
weight – 300lbs, chest- 59”, arms- 22”, waist-34”, thigh – 39” and
calves 21”. Yates has been 5'10” in height and has been an inspiration
to every person aspiring to reach the top slot in the sport of body
building. His amateur and professional awards reveal his level of hard
work, dedication and passion he has had for the sport.
Dorian bought a gym called Temple Gym in Brimingham , England
in
1987, which he franchised after his post-competition with an intent to
develop a world-wide chain out of it. However, the venture today has
four outlets, three of which are in UK .
After his retirement in 1998, he joined hands with Kerry Kayes
in
order to contribute his knowledge and experience in a company called
‘Chemical Nutrition' which mainly dealt in the production of body
building supplement. Further in 2006 after finally giving up CNP
professional, he formed his own new supplement company namely ‘Dorian
Yates Ultimate Formulas'.
In 1993, Yates published his autobiography which read Blood
and
Guts. In 1996, Yates released a video which showed what should be one's
typical weight training regime in a week. He co-authored the book
called ‘A Warrior's Story' in 1998, in which he wrote what it takes to
reach the top as a professional body builder.
Lives of such people indeed tell us what it takes to transform
a
name into a brand and have the world looking up to them for everything
they stand for.
