Ronald
Dean Coleman aka ‘Ronnie' Coleman is one name that the fraternity of
body builders can't afford to miss. He one of those rare achievers
whose accolades spell limitless hard work, toil and passion unbound.
Born on May 13th, 1964 in Bastrop , Louisiana , Ronnie graduated Cum
Laude from Grambling State University with a degree in accounts. During
graduation, he also played football with the GSU Tigers under the
well-known coach Eddie Robinson and later went on to become a police
officer.
His adoration and passion for the sport has made Coleman one
of the
most sought –after body builders in the history of body building. A
proof of this is a fact that we won the Mr. Olympia title for eight
times straight. Apart from this, he also has to his credit the honor of
winning maximum contests (26) as an IFBB professional other than his
Mr. Olympia titles. He made his debut by winning the Mr. Texas (heavy
weight & overall) title . There after started his inexhaustible
era
of making his presence felt at various body building contests. In 1991,
he won the World Amateur Championships (heavy weight0 followed by Mr.
Universe contest in the same year. The years 1995 and 1996 saw him
winning the Canada Pro Cup.
Ronnie's list of accolades will be incomplete without
mentioning his
Grand Prix winning titles from various countries such as Russia ,
Finland , Germany , England , New Zealand , and Holland . Other
prestigious titles won by him include Night of Champions (1998), World
Pro Championships (2000) and Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic (2001).
Besides, his winning the Mr. Olympia title from 1998 to 2005 without a
year's pause is an achievement generations will keep looking up to in
times to come.
Coleman is an ardent supporter of the Inner City Games,
co-founded
by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1991. He finally announced his retirement
in 2007 when he placed fourth in the contest. In 2006, he stood second
to Jay Cutler whom he thought he would defeat in order to break his
eight-time Mr. Oympia winning record which he shares with Lee Haney.
