Natural defense mechanism against heart disease identifiedAccording to researchers at the University of Leeds, a natural defense mechanism against heart disease can be switched on by steroids sold as health supplements.

Biologists at the University of Leeds were able to identify a previously-unknown ion channel in human blood vessels that could possibly inhibit the production of proteins (cytokines) driving the early stages of heart disease.

The research suggested that expected benefits of ‘fountain of youth’ steroids will be much greater if they are used in a combination with healthy lifestyle strategies such as diet and exercise or cholesterol-reducing drugs.
