Elmar Lichtenegger steroidsElmar Lichtenegger was banned for life on August 27 by the Austrian Athletics Federation. The 34-year-old hurdler has tested positive for doping twice since 2003.

The anabolic steroid nandrolone was found in his system November last year at a training session. In 2003, he tested positive on the same banned compound and received a 15-month ban because of this doping incident.

Lichtenegger can appeal AAF’s decision at the arbitrary committee of his country’s anti-doping agency. However, he is not expected to contest the decision since he has already retired from the sport last year, soon after he tested positive for nandrolone the second time.

In both instances, Lichtenegger blamed bad nutrition supplements for the positive result.

Lichtenegger’s best result was winning a silver medal in the 110 meter hurdles at the 2002 European indoor championships. In 1999, he achieved his personal best time at 13.33 seconds in Athens.

Hurdling is a type of track and field race. There are two categories of hurdling – sprint hurdle races and long hurdle races. The sprint hurdle race is 110 meters for men and 100 meters for women, both with 10 hurdles. The long hurdle, meanwhile, is 400 meters for both men and women also with 10 hurdles to be ran over.
