If you want to add weight and running short of time before a competitive event, insulin can help you in more than just a way.

Considered to be one of the most powerful anabolic agents, insulin is a protein secreted by the pancreas that acts on the liver for stimulating the formation of glycogen from glucose. It is also useful in inhibiting the conversion of non-carbohydrates into glucose and promoting facilitated diffusion of glucose through cells with insulin receptors.

One of the biggest advantages with insulin is that it is closely associated with dramatic stimulation of protein synthesis and promotion of muscle mass, body strength, and performance. By enhancing peptide chain initiation, insulin helps in making ingested protein more efficient by promoting the transport of amino acids into muscle cells. Not only this, it is also useful in increasing bone density and the IGF (insulin-like growth factor) levels. Insulin is also associated with significant improvements in terms of both LH (luteinizing hormone) and FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), which in turn stimulates the production of testosterone. In addition to all these benefits, it is also useful in increasing the binding ability of anabolic steroids to the androgen receptors.

It is best to take insulin in 1-2 IU or 1 IU per 10 kilograms of bodyweight up to 5-6x a day with meals though those into bodybuilding and strength athletics often use insulin in doses of 20-40 IU per day. It is very important that doses of insulin are complemented with a small amount of essential fats, a slightly larger amount of mixed carbohydrates, and at least 40g of protein with each meal.
